So after ConVic, an offer was made to buy my Ogres. I have, in the past, discussed selling them, but it certainly wasn't on the radar at this time. However, I was happy with the offer and even better; it came with a comission to produce more for the army. I can continue working on the army without having to worry about fianancing it. Sure, it's not my army any more, but that doesn't detract from my satisfaction in building and painting it. It did leave me in the lurch, though...

When The Ship Goes Down...

Wound Indicators and Armada sighted
Kings of War requires some means of keeping track of unit damage. The most popular method is to use dice, but they have a tendency to get rolled. I'm sure there are plenty of good commercial products out there, but I wanted something on the cheap.
I printed some numbers onto sticky labels, which are pretty cheap. I used Excel to knock out the numbers, ranging from 1 to 26 (which as far as I know is the highest rout value in the game and effectively the most damage one would need to track). I then used conditional formatting (w
hich I love to use at work). I also added a few Wavering and Disordered tokens. There are more at the low end as I figure these will be used more often.
I then stuck the labels onto some acrylic sheet. This is proving the major hiccup, as the sheet is really tough, so snapping it is loud and starts to hurt my fingers. I wanted to use spare Mantic bases, but I haven't generated enough yet!
Greg has already made some of these markers (I printed them in blue-red for him) and we used them in a game- did the trick. His are magnetic and I will also do this. Each unit then has a receiving piece of steel or a magnet embedded in it.
Also, some progress on ships. Masts are almost complete, only needing sails to be attached (and then PVA soaked). The crow's nests are detachable, and there are more masts than ships.

About half are separate, the rest still need to be snapped. |

Keeping A Handle on Things
Kings of War requires that unit damage be tracked. Lots of methods have been proposed for this: counters, dice, kill rings. There are plenty of options.
My original plan was to put slots into my multi-bases to hold dice. However, I ended up with less space on my bases than I had forseen, so I need a new plan.

Building the Kedorian Battleship
I recently picked up a Kedorian support boxed set. It contains a battleship and two cruisers. My initial observation was that they're awesomely huge! My second observation was that they look like some of the most fiddly Spartan figures I've ever assembled, so I thought I'd document my progress so anyone following could benefit from my experience.

Ready for paint
This week has seen my Wood Elf Orcs reach a point where I only need to put brush to model to finish (OK, a bit of glue for effect afterwards, but that's not modelling). A few snaps to fill you in on my progress towards Rockhamer:

Orcarus and Dorkaerus
Rockhammer lists are due tonight. At the time of writing, there are only two people paid up. I'm one of them. I think this has something to do with the fact that Face/Off is next week, and it's the biggest tournament Victoria has seen in a while. I'm not going to that; too time poor. Anyway, I need to submit my list tonight it seems. That means I'm committing to getting my army done in three weeks! Where am I so far?

Clipping Along
I'm making progress on the orcs, but things crop up and I don't know if they'll be done by Rock Hammer. Not really an issue; I'm quite excited to play with my Ogres, but it'd be exciting to finish the army too.

The Grace of an Orc
Just a quick update for you, featuring the final two characters in my 2999 list.
Back In The Thick of It
It's back on. The dining room table is covered in sprue, bits of models and sculpting tools. Rockhammer in on the horizon; my first tournament in 18 months, and I'm getting my orcs back in the game!

Nearly at Launch
Duelling Paintbrushes kicks off on Thursday, and I'm nearly ready to go. The BSB, shaman and fanatics are done. The arrer boys and goblins are done (although I still need to make a musician for the arrers). All that remain are the trolls and giant.
The trolls look much like the old ones. I'll not post new photos of them. The treeman is coming up a treat. He's looking exactly as I wanted him too; you get a decent pose out of the box. His armour came out nicely, and the overhangs distinguish him from the trolls a bit. I sculpted everything on cylinders separately to achieve that. It means the backs aren't textured, but they're not as heavily textured in real life anyway. If it looks really lacking I'll paint some grain on.
Right now, there are no straps. I hope there are by Thursday!

First Completed Samples
I'm such a new blogger; three posts in two days! I've finally completed some models, to give you an idea what the Wood Elf-Orcs will look like completed. The bases are my own painted resin and something new for me. I picked up a pack of reed-like stuff from a train shop. It's a bit of a pain to use, but I like the results so I'll stick at it. Not sure if I shoudl add some snow- I'm going for a spring theme and a little snow could be last of the winter. Tell me what you think.

List Building and Theming
Last weekend saw Mark's idea of a Warhammer World Series realised. I had a blast, which you can already read about. It did, however, highlight a potential aspect of my game that I've never had any proof of before. Playing five games with armies that I didn't design seemed to do wonders for my game. I finished 5th out of 22 players, when my usual goal at tournaments is to simply break even on battle points (ie, score draws on average).
