Space Table

My new Firestorm Armada/X-Wing Board
Today I built myself a new board for Firestorm armada or X-Wing. I've never actually had a game board of my own, since I've always played readily at the Hampton Games Club. However, with family commitments getting tighter, it seemed that being able top play a game in the evening would be a plus, so I had a go. It also made sense that the two games I've adopted of late both need the same board. I've made plenty of terrain in the past, so I figured my skills were up to the challenge. I took some inspiration from people on the Spartan Community Board and The Way Gate

The board was made in three sessions, like most of the club boards. I used 9mm MDF for a bit more stability. I wanted to make sure the board would play both X-Wing and Firestorm Armada, so I included a 3'x3' area for X-Wing, over two of the 2'x4' boards. A third 2'x4' section tacks on to make a 6'x4' board for Firestorm Armada.

I have prepared a brief tutorial below for how I made my boards.

Dindrenzi Fleet Initial Efforts

The carrier
There seems to be a bit of a frenzy at the Hampton Games Club: Firestorm Armada. I haven't seen a game taken up so quickly in years. Sure, new games have taken off, and the club has seen a lot of new players playing new games since some of the "core" games have started to decline. However, I've not seen so many existing players at Hampton buy into a new game at such a rate. It's pretty exciting, I just hope the excitement last over the summer whilst we're on a break.

I'm Gone Sendin' to Outer Space

So the Wood Elf Orcs were apparently a real burn-out for me. I didnt' even get around to finishing my tournament report for Rockhammer. I ended up in the top half of the field, which is pretty good considering I'd never used the army before! More excitingly, I took away best army. I've played a few games since, but I'm also looking at getting into new games that are a bit easier on the hip pocket and my time budget; X-Wing and Firestorm Armada. I'm also running a Warhammer tournament at This is War! next year; a miniatures event for Melbourne.

Finally Complete!

Wow- it's been over 2goblirs, but my Wood Elf Orcs are done. 3000 points completed. That means I can bust them out on the weekend for Rockhammer!
Here are a few quick snaps- I really just wanted to see what they looked like and thought you may too. The colour isn't great in these shots, but hopefully I'll get some nicer ones with backgrounds on the weekend.

Some solid progress

This week I've been working hard to get my Wood Elf Orc army done in time for Rockhammer. I think I've reached the point where I am confident that I can make it there. I have even challenged Dave O'War Duriesmith to a grudge match, as he's bringing his Wood Elves that I know will look nice, so I'm hoping we can have a bit of a supermodel Vs Drag Queen match. Anyway, I plan to discuss the event more afterwards, right now here are some photos of what I've done this week:

Liebsters 2014

My blog won an award! Perhaps if I state it like that, it will sound like more of an accomplishment... Still, it's nice to be thought of, and it's a cool idea to try and promote other people's work. I'm now supposed to answer 11 questions, then nominate 11 further blogs for an award. I believe the blog is capped at 200 followers, so it's only small scale stuff. Read on for my questions 11 and my nominees.

Ready for paint

This week has seen my Wood Elf Orcs reach a point where I only need to put brush to model to finish (OK, a bit of glue for effect afterwards, but that's not modelling). A few snaps to fill you in on my progress towards Rockhamer:

Orcarus and Dorkaerus

Rockhammer lists are due tonight. At the time of writing, there are only two people paid up. I'm one of them. I think this has something to do with the fact that Face/Off is next week, and it's the biggest tournament Victoria has seen in a while. I'm not going to that; too time poor. Anyway, I need to submit my list tonight it seems. That means I'm committing to getting my army done in three weeks! Where am I so far?

Clipping Along

I'm making progress on the orcs, but things crop up and I don't know if they'll be done by Rock Hammer. Not really an issue; I'm quite excited to play with my Ogres, but it'd be exciting to finish the army too.

The Grace of an Orc

Just a quick update for you, featuring the final two characters in my 2999 list.

Back In The Thick of It

It's back on. The dining room table is covered in sprue, bits of models and sculpting tools. Rockhammer in on the horizon; my first tournament in 18 months, and I'm getting my orcs back in the game!

Pirate Ogre Origins

I had a diary going on Wargamerau whilst I was painting my Ogre Pirates. This was before I started my blog, so it was pretty much a in lieu of this. Alas, the photos were hosted by my old ISP, and have long since been lost from the internet (perhaps someone out there had applied rule 34, but I doubt it). Anyway, I thought I'd put some pictures up of them in case anyone was interested, and because I wanted them out there again. Let me take you back to 2009...

Almost Ready for Action

The gators are done. All they need is a movement tray (which is drying as I type) and they'll be ready for what I hope to be my first game in roughly 18 months. It'll be rusty, but I'm looking forward to it either way.

Gators' progress.

Some pictures of the gators as they are right now. The unit is all but done, however a few details are still missing. This is entirely due to my lack of any red paint, so some orange details I can't do. I'm out of red, and I've never owned an orange before... Sorry, I had no specific lighting for the shots, just room lights.

The whole unit.

Ogre Revival

Last year I bought some Ogre Pirates from Titanforge. Having no time or space to work with them, they've sat unused for a whole year. Until last week...

It lives!

Almost a year ago, I stopped posting. Today, I've started again. It's not like any one thing has suddenly happened, or that I've done absolutely nothing in the meantime, but I finally feel like I have a goal/project in mind and something that I'm working toward that's worth writing about!
